Colorblindness

Terry Letsche
Good morning.

I have a number of students (mostly men) who are colorblind, and are
sometimes unable to interpret histograms and charts in Weka.

Does anyone have suggestions? Is it possible to rotate through color
palettes until a user can find one that works for them?

Thanks.

Terry

It is not possible to change the colours in the histogram shown in the Preprocess panel. In the Visualize panel, users can click on the names for the different class values given in the panel to bring up a window that enables changing the colour. There is also a properties file for the Visualize panel that permits changing the colour of the axes and the background. (By starting up the “Workbench” rather than the “Explorer” from the GUIChooser, it is also possible to change these settings from the GUI via “Program -> Settings -> Visualize”.)

Cheers,
Eibe

Just a thought of mine: I guess it is possible to change the colours
programmatically. Sure, it's not that interactivity asked for, but at
least a way to provide some fixed settings for colourblind people.

Then it might help to know in which class those colours are assigned?

Re: Colorblindness

It’s

The relevant variable is

m_deafaultColors

Unfortunately, it’s private final, otherwise it would be possible to change it easily from the Groovy or Jython console. I tried to hack it from the Groovy console via Java reflection but failed. Maybe someone with a better understanding of reflection could give it a go.
